A park in Redditch has received a prestigious award for the quality of its green spaces.

Redditch Borough Council is celebrating after Morton Stanley Park won a Green Flag Award.

The team said it is a testament to the "hard work" and "dedication" of its staff that care for the green space so that visitors and residents can enjoy it.

Redditch Borough Council leader Joe Baker said: "We have so many beautiful green parks and spaces across the borough and we work hard to make them into amazing places to be enjoyed by everyone.

"To be awarded the Green Flag status is a testament to this and I am really proud.

"Plus we have received this award in time for the summer holidays when I hope we see as many residents and visitors of all ages enjoying our parks."

The Green Flag Award Scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.

It also sets the benchmark for the management of green spaces across the UK and around the world.

Paul Todd MBE, the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Award Scheme manager, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Morton Stanley Park on achieving a Green Flag Award.

"Morton Stanley Park is a vital green space for communities in Redditch to socialise, enjoy nature and for children to play safely. It provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.

"We know that staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award, everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

"It is important that our free-to-use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected."
