A Studley-based developer has welcomed a Team GB athlete to its office as part of a 400-mile virtual cycling fundraiser.
Members of Persimmon Homes South Midlands took on the challenge to cycle 400 miles, the equivalent of travelling from the Studley office to Paris, to raise a total of £2,731 for the Matt Gallagher Foundation.
The charity was formed after former rugby player, Matt, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in October 2023.
Despite the sudden diagnosis, Matt immediately wanted to help others in his situation.
Before he retired from rugby, he started a successful career in the housebuilding industry and now runs his own business further adding to his extensive network.
The fundraising event was marked by a visit from Shanaze Reade, a former BMX racer and track cyclist who has competed at World Championship and Olympic level.
Reade helped the team reach their 400-mile goal, providing encouragement and taking part in the event.
She said: "This challenging endeavour showcased not only their physical endurance but also their commitment to making a positive impact in our community.
"Through teamwork, determination, and shared passion for supporting a great cause, they successfully completed the ride, highlighting the true spirit of generosity and camaraderie within the organisation.
"I’m incredibly proud of their dedication and the funds raised, which will go a long way in supporting the important work of the Matt Gallagher Foundation. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this incredible journey."
Russell Griffin, Managing Director at Persimmon South Midlands, said: "What we do is about so much more than building quality homes, it’s also about giving back to good causes in and around the communities we build in.
"It was great to see so many of the team take part in our cycle to Paris event, raising much-needed funds for the Matt Gallagher Foundation and being able to host Shanaze at the office to provide encouragement to the team was a fantastic opportunity."
