A WOMAN and a teenage boy were taken to hospital after a "significant" house fire in Redditch.

Emergency services rushed out to the blaze which broke out at a house on Foxlydiate Crescent in Batchley on Thursday afternoon (August 1).

Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Bromsgrove and Droitwich Fire Stations – plus Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Alcester and Stratford were called to the scene at 4.40pm.

A spokesperson for the fire brigade said: "This was a significant house fire affecting the first floor.

"The fire was extinguished by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using two hose reel jets and one covering jet.

"Two casualties – a woman in her 40s and a teenage boy – were handed over to the care of the ambulance service".

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.37pm on Thursday to a fire at a private address on Foxlydiate Crescent in Batchley, Redditch. One ambulance attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a woman and a boy.

"Both were assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be life threatening.

"They were conveyed to Worcester Royal Hospital for further assessment.”

The fire brigade had extinguished the fire by 6.40pm, but a reinspection took place at 10pm by a Redditch Fire Station crew who used a nine-metre ladder and thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots which were dampened down.

The incident was marked as pending closure at 10:47pm.
