A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following a stabbing at a shopping area in Redditch.

The victim of the attack at the Woodrow Centre on Sunday (August 4) was a 13-year-old boy.

Police Officers were called to the area after receiving a report of a stabbing just after 5pm.

West Mercia Police said the victim's injury is not considered to be life-threatening.

The boy who was arrested has since been released on bail while officers continue with their enquiries.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called to the Woodrow Centre in Redditch yesterday (Sunday 4 August), at around 5.10pm following a report of a male being stabbed.

"The injury is not deemed to be life-threatening.

“A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, he has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

“We can also confirm the victim was a 13-year-old boy”.

Anti-knife campaigner Pete Martin, who established the Redditch Self Defence Association, has described the stabbing as “very sad” but added that he was “not surprised” to hear of the incident.

He said: “That’s the main demographic for knife crime in the UK. I’m not surprised, I’m always saddened.

"The latest statistics on knife crime say the cohorts in most danger of knife crime are between the ages 13 to 19.

"That's the demographic that I work with".

Mr Martin, who has been a self-defence instructor since 1989, offers anti-knife crime support and victim support.

The 58-year-old said he has been speaking with Redditch’s new MP Chris Bloore about the issue of knife crime in the town.
