REDDITCH police have shared an update on their enquiries into an alleged hate crime incident where a can of food was thrown in Tesco.

The force shared a CCTV appeal this morning (Wednesday, August 7), asking the public for help in identifying a woman they wanted to speak to following the incident at the Oakenshaw store last month.

On Facebook, Redditch Police said that a woman became abusive to another woman on a mobility scooter by calling her insulting names and suggesting she was not disabled.

Officers also said that after the two continued shopping and were in separate aisles, a can of food was allegedly thrown over the aisle to where the victim was stood, but no one was hit.

Redditch Police have now said that a woman has now come forward and is helping with enquiries.

They said: "Thanks to everyone who shared our appeal this morning regarding an alleged hate crime in Tesco, Oakenshaw last month.

"A woman has come forward and is now helping us with our enquiries".

The original police appeal said: "On Wednesday 11 July at approximately 4.50pm, a woman on a mobility scooter noticed a young child climbing up a trolley and stated to them to be careful.

"Following this another woman became abusive to her calling her insulting names regarding her physical appearance and suggested she was not actually disabled.

"Both parties carried on shopping but, shortly after, while the victim was in the cereal aisle and the suspect in the aisle next to them, the suspect allegedly threw a can of food over the aisle to where the victim was stood.

"Fortunately, the projectile did not strike anyone".
