Partou Alexandra Day Nursery and Preschool in Redditch have achieved the Plastic Free Schools Accreditation.

In their move toward a more sustainable future, the centre bounced into the spotlight in 2022 when it decided to join the Plastic Free Schools program.

The program, launched in 2018, empowers students to understand and tackle the issue of single-use plastic.

Children and staff at Partou Alexandra collaborated in various projects, notably 'trash mob' challenges to clean up litter, creative repurposing of items, and planting for the benefit of local creatures.

The nursery also cultivates its own produce for snacks and cooking.

Holly Browning, Partou Alexandra nursery manager, said: "The children have learnt to look out for recycling symbols and help us to recycle each day.

"We have also endeavoured to utilise re-useable products wherever possible and have reduced our use of single-use plastics significantly. For example, many of our loose parts, curious treasures and pieces of furniture are pre-loved and sourced from charity shops or recycling stations."

"The children have enjoyed a wealth of literature aimed at inspiring planet-friendly habits, and the reasons why we must take care of our environment and the wider world.

"These books have often sparked wonderful invitations to play and child-led discussion and learning."
