The Army Cadet Force has launched a recruitment drive for enthusiastic teenagers in Worcester.

The Hereford & Worcester Army Cadet Force (ACF) is on the lookout for youngsters in the area to join them just ahead of the new school year.

This initiative comes as part of a larger national recruitment campaign, known as 'Be More', which highlights the benefits being a member of the Cadets can give you.

Recruitment activities are targeting Worcester along with nearby towns such as St John’s, Evesham, Pershore, Malvern, Kidderminster, and Stourport.

The ACF is a youth organisation sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, encouraging 12-18-year-olds to live a more active life.

Captain Jamie Edwards, ACF area commander for the Worcester region, said: "The start of a new school year also means the start of a fresh programme of events in the ACF, as we count down to Remembrance Day in November.

"We’ll be going out in the field, perfecting our drill and turnout, and, in November, going out into the community to sell poppies.

"It’s a fantastic time of year to get involved in our core cadet activities."

Available spaces are now open in ACF units in Worcestershire.

Captain Edwards said: "As a former cadet myself, I know just how much the ACF can do for young people.

"Anyone aged 12-18 should give the opportunity some thought.

"Our superb instructors will be there to welcome them and mentor them as they progress."

New cadets are introduced to a basic training syllabus that includes a range of skills from CPR and first aid to kit care.

New joiners are issued with a uniform after several weeks, their care and presentation to be managed by the cadets themselves.

The only required item cadets must provide is a pair of black or brown boots.

Captain Edwards added: "Watching cadets grow from shy youngsters into confident and responsible leaders is one of the best parts of my role.

"And it starts from the day cadets step through our doors."
