Revised plans to refurbish Redditch Town Hall have been confirmed.

The new plans for Redditch Borough Council's town centre community hub were on the agenda at a meeting of the full council on Monday (September 16).

The proposals will create a fresh community hub in the town centre including upgrades to the town hall building as well as offering event space.

The full council meeting followed an Executive Committee decision to approve the plans.

Councillor Joe Baker, the leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: "With the works now approved, we can get on with creating a much more suitable hub for the community.

"Preparing parts of the building for new tenants, bringing in a new improved reception as well as general building upgrades.

"We look forward to getting started on the project and can't wait for the finished article."

Work will now be able to start on the refurbishment which includes keeping the borough council offices on the ground, first, third and fourth floors.

The plans will also keep the current council chambers on the ground floor.

There will be space available for events and conference hire for organisations, businesses and communities on the ground floor.

The lower ground and second floors are set to be let to commercial end users now that the space is no longer required for the library.

Plans for Redditch’s new community hub changed after Redditch Borough Council’s executive committee voted at the end of July to withdraw an invitation to Redditch Library to move into it.

The decision means the local authority will now work on bringing other tenants into the town’s developing multi-agency hub at the town hall.

The council confirmed that the work on the town hall is scheduled to finish in September next year.
