International visitors to Worcestershire are spending 31 per cent more during their visits to the county, new data shows.

The card spending figures from VisitEngland and Visa reveal a significant increase in 2023 compared to last year.

This is seen as a positive sign of recovery and enthusiasm for UK travel post-pandemic.

The USA is the leading market for Worcestershire, aligning with the national trend of American tourists flocking to the UK.

Other top markets include the Republic of Ireland, Australia, France, and Germany.

The data shows 14 per cent of all spending by international visitors in the county was on hotels and lodging, indicating a rise in overnight stays.

This is beneficial for the area's economy as it brings more revenue to community businesses.

Restaurants and nightlife also saw a boost, with 22 per cent of the spending directed towards the sector.

Councillor Adam Kent, cabinet member for economy and skills at Worcestershire County Council, said: "This impressive 31 per cent growth in international visitor spending, led by the USA market, highlights Worcestershire’s increasing appeal to American travellers and beyond.

"It’s clear that our county’s unique offerings are resonating globally, and the economic benefits are being felt across local businesses and communities.

“As Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, I’m particularly encouraged by the strength of our transatlantic ties, and we are committed to further promoting Worcestershire as a must-visit destination for international visitors."

The data will guide Visit Worcestershire in its future plans to market the county to international tour operators and group travel organisers.

The regional tourism board is set to participate in the upcoming Group Travel & Leisure Show in October and the Britain & Ireland Marketplace (BIM) in early 2025.
