The Quayside: Stourport restaurant shortlisted for top award

The Quayside, which is located on Sandy Lane Industrial Estate in Stourport, has been named as a finalist for 'Best Restaurant in England' at the England Business Awards 2024. 

The seafood restaurant, which offers a variety of top-quality food and drink, has experienced phenomenal success over the years despite the owners, Scott Applegarth and his partner Zoe Chapple, taking on the lease just three weeks before lockdown. 

Mr Applegarth said the business prides itself on using the best quality produce and has a great relationship with its suppliers including W Harvey and Sons based in Cornwall.

"We have had an amazing reaction since announcing we had reached the national finals. It has all been a bit overwhelming.

"We are really looking forward to the grand final and no matter the outcome, we can't wait to celebrate with the team."

The news comes after the restaurant was named the best in Worcestershire during the regional finals in May with the team describing the win as a "whirlwind". 

Co-owner and head chef Scott Applegarth, aged 50, said: "We were just blown away. The whole evening was an absolute whirlwind and a bit of a blur.

"To win in our regional category came as a huge shock especially seeing where we started during lockdown but it is down to our incredible staff."

The restaurant also recently hit headlines after a customer found a pearl in her mussel whilst dining out for her birthday. 

Ms Alexander added: "The story was met with fantastic international response and we were all a bit shocked by it as it is incredibly rare. 

"We have had a great summer season and it just goes to show what the Cornish waters can produce. We really pride ourselves on using fresh produce as well as supporting smaller breweries and local suppliers. 

"We have stopped our Sunday lunches but we are now open for Wednesday lunch which coincides with our deliveries, so do give us a call and book your table."
