Huge crowds gathered in Redditch over the weekend to celebrate the return of the much-loved carnival.

Redditch Carnival Road Parade and Fun Day took place on Saturday (September 21) with the parade starting from Birchfield Playing Fields at 2.30pm.

Floats, vehicles and bikes kicked off the parade down Birchfield Road and Bromsgrove Road before they were joined by bands, walkers and performers at Redditch Cricket, Hockey and Rugby Club.

The full road parade then continued down Bromsgrove Road, Unicorn Hill, Church Green West, Easemore Road, Archer Road and Grove Street.

The procession, which had a new route this year, finished at Trinity High School.

Despite the rain, hundreds of people came out to show their support for those taking part in the parade with the crowds cheering on floats as they went by and headed towards the town centre.

In a post, a spokesperson for the Redditch Carnival Committee said: "We would love to say a massive thank you to everyone who was involved in bringing the carnival parade to the community of Redditch and a massive thank you for everyone who came out and supported it.

"It was lovely hearing a child in the parade say 'it was the best day of my life' and everyone saying it was better than last year.

"If you think you could bring something to the carnival we would love to hear from you, please email redditchcarnival@yahoo.com."

The event continued throughout the day from 12pm with craft and food stalls as well as live performances.

This included a performance from Got2Sing Choir as well as the Violette's, the Samba Band and It's a Sign at the bandstand in the town centre.

There was also entertainment for the children with Wilson's Funfair and much more so there was something for the whole family to enjoy.

The committee are now urging people to get in touch with ideas for next year's event.
