PLANS to move Redditch’s Shopmobility service to more accessible premises in the town have been passed at a full council meeting.

Members also agreed to update the fleet of scooters with a significant investment encouraging more people to visit the town.

After considering a number of options following a community survey, councillors agreed that 9 George Walk, a retail unit within the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, will become the home of Shopmobility, with the move set to take place in the next few months.

It was agreed the premises will provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere as well as an easier to find location.

Councillors voted through the motion unanimously, as the move will see Shopmobility take up a larger premises as well as refreshing the current fleet.

Leader of Redditch Borough Council, Cllr Joe Baker, said: “With this option, it gives people more confidence in the fleet as well as giving better access to service for public transport users whilst not comprising the fantastic service currently in place.”
