Residents have had their say on a plan to knock down an abandoned house to build six new homes in Redditch.
The proposal, which has now been approved by Redditch Borough Council, will see six new residential properties built on Dagnall End Road.
The site is currently occupied by a detached property known as Conwil which will be demolished and replaced with the new four and five bedroom homes.
Conwil has been derelict since 2010 and subject to repeated vandalism.
Applications to develop the site have been refused or withdrawn in previous years including plans to build 10 new homes on the site in 2014.
A revised application to construct eight homes on the site was submitted to the council in 2023, but this has now been changed after the applicant "carefully reviewed" the scheme and listened to feedback from neighbours.
Residents have shared their reactions to the news on social media with many raising concerns over the required access to the majority of the new homes from Berkeswell Close.
Tony Hateley said: "Absolute joke of a decision. Nothing wrong with building houses but when they start messing with established closes then it's an issue.
"Complete greed as the site will not be in keeping with houses locally."
Susan Harper said: "Why such big houses? Young people need affordable small houses. Single pensioners need bungalows to downsize to."
Denise Walker added: "Four and five bedroom homes could be ten homes, semi-detached. They will be cramped regarding ground area."
Others were more welcoming of the news that something will be done with the existing house and land after years of it being left derelict.
Sam Grubb said: "The house has been abandoned for a good 10 years and is about to fall down anyway as a few years ago it was set on fire by vandals so it would be uneconomical to fix up as it nearly about to collapse."
Steve Lal added: "Great news. I think it will be really nice once it's done. I might even be interested in one myself pending on the spec."
In the decision notice, the developers were praised for their 'positive and proactive' manner in seeking solutions to problems arising from the application and the plan was approved on Tuesday, September 24.
