Residents were treated to a spectacular display last night as the Northern Lights were captured across Redditch.
The Northern Lights, also known as an aurora borealis, lit up the sky yesterday evening (Thursday, October 10) with residents sharing their stunning images of the natural phenomenon.
The Met Office said relatively clear skies were forecast for much of the UK, creating a "decent chance of visibility".
A spokesperson for the forecaster said there had been "more space weather events in recent months", including the Northern Lights, because the sun was nearing the peak of its solar cycle.
Residents have now shared their images of the bright pink and green hues spotted across Redditch.
This includes Advertiser and Shuttle Camera Club member Sarah Harris Cattell who captured the display from Church Hill.
She said: "Fantastic Northern Lights last night and I didn’t have to travel far to see them either."
Ant Stokes managed to capture the pink and green hues over Arrow Valley Lake whilst Helen Worrall also took a stunning snap from Greenlands calling the display "beautiful".
Aurora displays occur when charged particles collide with gases in the Earth's atmosphere around the magnetic poles.
The sight of the aurora is generally easier to see the further north you go and can depend on weather conditions, but it is visible from across the UK.
