An Alcester school has marked its 60th anniversary with a special Mass and celebration led by the Archbishop of Birmingham.

St Benedict's Catholic High School's birthday celebration took place on Friday, October 11, led by His Grace, Bernard Longley.

The school’s sports hall was transformed to resemble its chapel for the occasion, adorned with students' paintings of saints and artwork inspired by its stained-glass windows.

The Archbishop was welcomed by students and staff, and began the service with a message emphasising the importance of community, service, and faith.

After the welcome, the service continued with a Penitential Rite, prayers, Bible readings, and hymns performed by the school choir.

Students and staff participated in the Communion, before the Mass concluded with prayers and a final blessing from the archbishop.

Headteacher, Mrs Paddock, said: "This celebration marks a pivotal moment in our school’s history, and having the archbishop here to lead us in this special Mass has been a profound honour.

"We are truly grateful for the opportunity for our students to participate in such a historic event, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make it a success."

Following the Mass, a time capsule ceremony saw students contribute thoughtful items, including handwritten poems and artwork, which were then buried on the school grounds.

Six new trees, representing the school's six decades, were also planted and individually blessed by the Archbishop.

The day concluded with a celebratory buffet for students, staff, and guests to enjoy food and share stories about the school's past.
