A broadband company has claimed that it is launching the fastest broadband speeds in the UK.

Airband, a rural broadband specialist with a significant presence in Worcestershire, announced the introduction of the top speeds over their next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) network.

The firm, which has been building and operating broadband networks for 15 years, has partnered with Silicon Valley-based company Tarana to become the first operator in Europe to deploy its ngFWA platform.

This allows the company's customers access to fibre-class speeds of up to 400 Mbps.

Airband has built a mixed network of ngFWA and fibre connections that reach more than 440,000 premises across 200 communities.

The company has been trialling the ngFWA technology in collaboration with Tarana to deliver ultra-fast speeds at distances of up to seven kilometres.

This makes Airband the only network capable of providing these speeds over long distances to residential customers in the UK.

Five ngFWA sites have already been deployed, delivering 400+ Mbps service to live Airband customers.

Despite the packages being marketed as 400 Mbps, the company's engineers are reporting speeds exceeding 600 Mbps at installation.

Kash Rahman, managing director at Airband, said: "With Tarana, we’re putting connectivity first.

"ngFWA has made it simpler for us to grow our network and connect more homes and business.

"We look forward to bringing high-speed service to more communities that are waiting for a better broadband option."

Basil Alwan, Tarana CEO, added: "We are thrilled to see ngFWA technology taking off in the UK.

"Airband is dedicated to their customers, and we are honoured to support them as they expand into new territories to further narrow the country’s digital divide."

The introduction of the technology is set to have a considerable impact on internet service providers, as it does not require a line of sight and features true interference cancellation technology.

This greatly broadens the scope of reliable broadband.

The company is currently replacing legacy equipment to upgrade existing customers and expand its coverage area.

The speed packages, ranging from £30 to £40 per month, are available under its AirSpeed product category.
