This month, I had the privilege of visiting DS Smith's Global Innovation and R&D Centre in Redditch. This cutting-edge facility is not only driving advancements in sustainable packaging but also creating valuable local jobs—positioning Redditch at the forefront of green innovation on a global scale.

During my tour, Stuart Rose and Katie Turberville-Cox introduced me to DS Smith's ambitious "Now & Next Sustainability Strategy." This approach goes far beyond making packaging recyclable; it embodies a holistic commitment to eliminating waste and pollution from the start. DS Smith collaborates with clients to reach significant goals, such as removing one billion pieces of single-use plastic. Witnessing these initiatives firsthand underscored how important Redditch is to the international movement toward eco-friendly solutions.

One of DS Smith's defining strengths is their circular economy model, which powers innovations like the "Box to Box in 14 Days" initiative. This programme allows paper fibre to be reused and recycled in as little as two weeks, showing how sustainable business can make efficient use of resources while reducing waste. It’s a model that not only prioritises the environment but also bolsters the community through quality, forward-looking job opportunities.

I'm particularly proud that such a forward-thinking company calls Redditch home. With DS Smith employing over 30,000 people worldwide, their presence here brings exciting prospects for local residents seeking skilled roles in an industry crucial for the future. Facilities like DS Smith’s are vital in supporting our local economy while leading the way toward a greener future.

As your MP, I am committed to encouraging businesses like DS Smith that bring both economic and environmental value to our community. Whether it’s through supporting legislative measures for sustainable practices or fostering further investment in Redditch, I believe we can create a thriving, green economy that benefits all residents.

If you'd like to discuss local business development or other community issues, please get in touch at chris.bloore.mp@parliament.uk or attend one of my upcoming surgeries. Together, we can build a future in Redditch that combines prosperity with environmental responsibility.
