This past week saw a landmark moment in Parliament: Rachel Reeves, our nation’s first female Chancellor, delivered the first Labour Budget in 14 years. This Budget signifies a much-needed shift—a commitment to restore our economy, strengthen public services, and improve life for working people. For Redditch and the Villages, this marks the start of meaningful progress that has been long overdue.
Years of underinvestment have left their mark on our community. NHS waiting lists are at record highs, GP appointments are hard to come by, and our SEND services have struggled to keep up with demand. This Budget takes aim at these issues by funding an additional 40,000 NHS appointments every week, helping to ease pressures on our Alexandra Hospital and improve access to care. Increased support for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) will ensure children in Feckenham, Harvington, Inkberrow, and across our area have the resources they need to thrive.
This Budget also provides vital relief for working families across Redditch. Raising the National Living Wage by 6.7% is a step towards better pay, helping ensure that everyone who works hard can meet the rising costs of everyday life. As people work to rebuild their lives after years of economic instability, Labour remains focused on improving living standards and supporting families at every income level.
Labour’s Budget isn’t just about addressing immediate needs—it also looks forward, setting the foundation for a sustainable, green future. Infrastructure investments will not only create jobs but also improve our transport links, enabling a stronger economy right here. With Redditch’s strong manufacturing base, our area is poised to lead in green industry initiatives, contributing to the UK’s efforts in sustainable growth.
But let’s be clear: this Budget is only the beginning. Repairing what was broken will take time and dedication. Labour is committed to growth, responsible investment, and building a fairer Britain. As your MP, I want to hear your thoughts on these changes. Please reach out to me at chris.bloore.mp@parliament.uk or attend an upcoming surgery. Together, we’re making a difference for Redditch and the Villages, building the brighter future we all deserve.
