MATT Clarke has said he has "unfinished business" at Redditch United after being reappointed as manager of the club.

He's back in charge following former manager and England goalkeeper Tim Flowers' shock sudden departure on Friday (November 15).

Mr Clarke said he will be trying to progress the good work that's been done in the last few months.

He said: "I'm glad to be back. It's a club that means a lot to me".

Mr Clarke said he's missed the job and that he received a "warm welcome" from fans on his return this week.

"There's a good bond between myself and supporters," he said.

Earlier this year, Mr Clarke stood down as the men's first team manager with immediate effect on May 15 after being charged with supplying cocaine and cannabis, and being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Mr Clarke, from Bromsgrove, had always maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Crown Prosecution Service later withdrew the charges during a hearing at Worcester Crown Court on Friday (June 21).

Mr Clarke said: "It was just a chapter in my life that's passed now and I'm just focusing on the positives".

Following Redditch United's victory on Saturday, Mr Clarke said on Facebook: "What a crazy 24 hours.

"Back in the dugout doing what I do best.

"To say it’s been a tough time away is the understatement of the year.

"Incredible day great scenes at the end with the last-minute winner. Amazing being back up the Reds have a great Saturday everyone."

Redditch United announced the appointment of Matt Clarke on Saturday and described him as a "familiar and respected figure at the club."

On Clarke's return, chairman David Faulkner said: "Football is a fast-moving game, and when changes happen, it’s crucial to act quickly.

"With Tim Flowers stepping down, we knew we needed to provide clarity for both our players and supporters.

"Matt Clarke is someone who knows the club well and has a proven track record of success.

"We’re excited to see him return and lead the team forward."
