THE stage is set for Redditch Operatic Society's production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
The amateur theatre group is bringing its new show, based on the classic gothic Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, to Redditch's Palace Theatre this week.
The story follows the life of bell-ringer, Quasimodo, as he observes life in fifteenth-century Paris from the gargoyle-covered bell tower of Notre Dame, where he is held captive by his devious caretaker, the Archdeacon Frollo.
Quasimodo escapes for the day and joins the crowds in the streets as they celebrate the Feast of Fools, only to be treated cruelly by everyone apart from the kind-hearted Esmeralda. Quasimodo is captivated by her free spirit, as are Captain Pheobus and Archdeacon Frollo.
The Palace Theatre said on its website: "A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic.
"Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly imaginative and picturesque musical event, coming to the Palace Theatre for the very first time. Don’t miss it".
The production opens at the theatre on November 19 and runs through to November 23.
Tickets are still available via the Palace Theatre website.
