ASSAULT and strangulation charges have been dropped against a Redditch councillor.
The CPS has offered no evidence against Saheed Khan, commonly known as Sid, who appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday (November 26).
The 50-year-old denied the charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
Councillor Khan was re-elected in the local elections in May this year as a Labour councillor for the North ward, and was recently the portfolio holder for environmental services on the borough council.
He was "administratively suspended" by the Labour Party after being charged. The Redditch Borough Council website shows that Khan now sits as an independent councillor.
In September 2022, Khan was elected to the Labour National Policy Forum to represent the West Midlands, representing the Redditch Labour group on a national level.
A CPS spokesperson said: "We have a duty to keep all our cases under continuous review.
“Following a further review of this case, we have concluded that our legal test is no longer met and the case was stopped.”
