PLANS for a large-scale scheme which may include 1,000 houses, with land reserved for shops and a school and other amenities, were deferred for further discussions with the county planning committee by Redditch Urban District Council’s planning committee on Monday.
The decision was made on the grounds that the development should not take place so rapidly and because they feared the estate might become “a little Brummagen”, with most of the houses owned by people working in the city.
The committee was discussing an application by a Birmingham firm to develop the Lodge Farm area in Studley Road and the county planning officer’s view was that the development should be approved with conditions.
Among these were that the development should proceed in at least four stages of three years, each to the satisfaction of the planning authority; a satisfactory detailed layout, with land reserved for a main shopping centre, social and public buildings, a school and other amenities.
