ONCE the youngest MP in the House of Commons, and even now only 43, Mr John Profumo has become joint second-in-command at the Foreign Office in his second promotion within two weeks.
Mr Profumo represents Studley, Alcester and Bidford-on-Avon, and is married to Miss Valerie Hobson, the actress.
He was, last Friday, promoted to the post of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in succession to commander Allan Noble who, for personal and family reasons, has resigned from the Government and decided not to stand at the next general election.
In succeeding commander Noble Mr Profumo could become Britain’s chief minister at the United Nations, although in an interview last week he was unable to say whether he would be concentrating mainly on his United Nations work or work closer to home.
