A NUMBER of Redditch homes and businesses are set for super-fast broadband.
More than 5,700 homes and businesses in Ipsley and more than 7,500 served by Redditch Old Town telephone exchange are among the next communities to be included in BT’s £2.5 billion super-fast fibre broadband programme.
These upgrades, to provide much faster speeds than previously available, are due to be completed by Autumn 2012.
The technology is already available in many regions with Headless Cross one of the areas due to be upgraded afterwards.
Redditch MP Karen Lumley said: “I am delighted to hear of the new super-fast broadband program from BT.
“I’m sure that this new technology will have a positive impact on home owners and businesses alike in the area allowing them faster access to broadband and all the benefits associated with this.
“It is a fantastic step forward for the area.”
Simon Geraghty, deputy leader of Worcestershire County Council, added: “This arrival is a very important development and represents a significant investment for Worcestershire.
“There is no doubt that super-fast broadband is a real benefit to householders and provides businesses with a competitive advantage.
“The provision of super-fast broadband is a key priority for Worcestershire County Council and the announcement is a welcome step in the right direction and will give a long-term boost to our local economy.”
John Dovey, BT’s West Midlands regional director, said that the latest investment in Worcestershire will propel internet users into the 21st century fast lane.
