NEXT week, Alcester is hosting its very first Ghost Festival with a whole host of spooky events to entertain visitors as the evenings begin to creep in.

The event is being organised by the team behind the Whispering Witch in Henley Street, and its bringing everything from plays and story telling by the grim reaper, to ghosts walks, paranormal debates, and a psychic fayre in the town hall, as well as face painting for children.

Karl Newman is one of the festival organisers. He said: “The idea is to try and help the town. If we can help this grow over the next few years it could be a major thing, and a lot of the local community support us in a big way. People are just going back to what’s natural.”

As well as encouraging visitors to Alcester, the Ghost Festival is hope to raise funds toward the Alcester branch of the Royal British Legion, and local shop owners are being encouraged to get into the spectral spirit, by dressing their shop windows in a spooky style.

Mr Newman added: “This is going to be an annual event. We aim to make it big, but like anything it’s ‘suck it and see’.”

The Ghost Festival is running from Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2. For more information visit whisperingwitch.co.uk/frameghostfest2011.htm.
