RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on the future of Redditch’s parliamentary constituency.

Under proposals by the Boundary Commission, part of a wider plan to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600, Redditch would have a number of new wards.

These would include Alvechurch, Wythall South, Drakes Cross and Walkers Heath and Hollywood and Majors Green, all of which would move from Bromsgrove.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley said: “The reason that the boundary commission have looked at Redditch, along with the rest of the country is due to the commitment made by the Conservatives, in our manifesto to reduce the number of seats in parliament.

“These proposal puts Redditch in line with every other parliamentary seat having roughly 75,000 electors.

“I was elected to serve the people of Redditch as it currently stands and will continue to do so fully until the general election 2015.”

She added: “I do however urge constituents to express their views to the boundary commission.”

There is now a two year consultation period but, if adopted, the changes would be in place for the 2015 general election.

A public consultation runs until December 5 with the results being used to revise the plans.
