WORCESTERSHIRE County Council's environment and economy overview and scrutiny panel has heard how a number of its recommendations made last July to improve gritting worked out during last winter’s bad weather and what further improvements have been put in place.
At a recent meeting councillors found that several initiatives had been set up following the scrutiny exercise focusing on the issue, which included consultation with residents, traders, schools and other groups in the county.
A total of 15,000 tonnes of salt is in stock around Worcestershire – the most ever held before the start of the winter. Last year shortages elsewhere in the country resulted in contracted stock replenishment deliveries not arriving, so rather than relying on re-supplying throughout the season this approach has been adopted.
