FOLLOWING consultation with local disability groups, Worcestershire County Council has decided not to move the five disabled parking bays in Church Green East, in Redditch town centre.
The original intention saw the disabled parking bays being relocated to Herbert Street to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety.
But the proposals have now been shelved for the time being following the consultation that saw local county council officers meeting local disability groups. The county council will now leave the disabled bays where they are.
Councillor Brandon Clayton, Worcestershire County Council's local member for Arrow Valley West, said: "This move to keep the five disabled parking bays is good example of the council listening to and responding to the views of local residents groups and businesses.
“We are always open to hearing from residents and do take their views into consideration which is certainly exemplified in this case."
The Redditch Town Centre pedestrianised zone orders will now go ahead without the proposal to remove the five disabled parking space. Disabled parking in the town centre will now be reviewed at a later date.
