REDDITCH United Football Club and the UK’s leading cancer charity is urging residents to get involved in the club’s Biggest Coffee Morning and raise money for Cancer Research UK.

On Wednesday, October 12 at 10am, the club is inviting anyone wanting to help or learn more about cancer and Cancer Research UK to visit.

Supported by local businesses, there will be an opportunity to share stories, raise money and raise awareness of what is now the leading cause of death worldwide.

Sallie Swan, club vice chairman, is championing the campaign. More than two years ago she discovered she had breast cancer following a general health check-up.

She said: “I had no visible signs or symptoms. Thanks to early diagnosis and the help and support of doctors and nurses, and the loving care of my family, I have made a full recovery.

“I was very lucky and extremely fortunate. Hundreds of people come through our turnstiles each week and we want to help by raising awareness as many people ignore early signs which could improve their chances of getting a fast diagnosis and treatment.”

Over the season, the club will be working to raise awareness of the charity’s ‘spot cancer early’ campaign and raising money to help vital work in beating cancer through research.

From November 1, the club will be committing 10 per cent of all advertising revenue to the appeal and over the course of the year is hoping to raise thousands of pounds at the same time as raising awareness.

On October 29, players and fans will be coming together to support the appeal. For more information or to join the campaign, call Sallie Swan on 01527 67450 or email redditchutdfc@ymail.com.
