SEPTEMBER’S meeting was held at the Washford Mill. There were some user group admin matters addressed at the start of the meeting. From these discussions the decision was taken to upload the group's new look and revamped website, and the importance of having a twitter feed and a presence on facebook to appeal to the widest audience possible.
The group also started to make plans for a possible "installfest" for a future date, where new users or anyone curious about Linux and open source software can attend drop-in sessions to learn more and ask any questions. It's intended that these sessions will be completely hands-on with lots of practical demonstrations and the opportunity for people to try out Linux for themselves.
The group also set themselves a challenge - for each member to install and try a new Linux distribution they are less familiar with. It is hoped that this will give the group a greater understanding of the other systems available and the use of virtual machines. Each member will keep an online blog of how they get on via the NEW LUG social network.
