A REDDITCH woman has been convicted of fly-tipping by Redditch Magistrates Court.
Angie Rose Mahon, aged 36, of Bushley Close, Woodrow, who did not appear at court, was fined £65 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge with £408.70 legal costs.
The court heard that in May this year, Mrs Mahon dumped a three piece suite and a large television on open land in Bushley Close. She was interviewed by a Redditch Council environmental enforcement officer and admitted the offence of fly-tipping.
A £50 fixed penalty notice was issued to Mrs Mahon, but she failed to pay the penalty within the required 14 days, resulting in the case being brought to court.
Councillor Brandon Clayton, portfolio holder for environment, said: “All offences of unauthorised dumping of rubbish are taken seriously and the council is committed to investigating and prosecuting where appropriate, because fly-tipping costs the taxpayer a lot of money.
“Although we are able to identify some cases of fly-tipping, we appreciate information from the public, which will help us to detect offences as early as possible.”
Anybody wishing to report incidents of fly-tipping can speak in confidence to Council enforcement officers on 01527 64252 ext 3099.
