THE Redditch Local History Society’s next event is in support of the The Worcestershire Local History Forum’s 2011 day school on Saturday, October 29 at Harlebury Castle from 9.30am-4.30pm.

The Worcestershire Local History Forum (WLHF) is an umbrella organisation co-ordinating and promoting the activities of local history, archaeology and specialist heritage groups across the county. The day school is an annual event that brings together these groups, provides detail focused talks on a topic of interest and supports a local good cause.

This year’s event is entitled “Worcestershire Castles and Houses Lost and at Risk”, and is being held at Hartlebury Castle by the kind invitation of the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust and with the church commissioners’s permission.

The Day School is in support of the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust which is trying to raise the money to buy the castle, currently for sale, so it can be preserved for public benefit and so that the nationally important Hurd Library can remain in situ.

As well as talks from a variety of speakers, many of the WLHF members will have displays highlighting their activities. The Redditch Local History Society will be one of the societies mounting a display.

The day is open to the public as well as members of the WLHF and costs £10 to attend with a lunch being available for an additional £5.

Booking can be made with Marlene Price, WLHF, 88 New Farm Road, Stourbridge, DY9 7PJ and full details can be found at dayschool2011.wlhf.org.uk For further information on this event, or Redditch Local History Society’s activities, see redditchhistory.org.uk, e-mail contact@redditchhistory.org.uk or call Derek Coombes on 01527 404365.
