A STAFF member at Redditch Council has been named on a high-profile list of green leaders thanks to her role in the well publicised energy recovery project at Redditch Crematorium.
Ceridwen John caught the eye of the judging panel for The West Midlands latest Green Leaders, with the controversial plans.
The work, which has just started, will use energy from the crematorium to heat the new Abbey Stadium’s swimming pool.
The climate change manager had to win over a lot of people, including senior officers and councillors, to bring the plan forward, which involves using heat captured as part of the flue gas system to heat the pool.
She received a certificate from Sara Parkin OBE.
“Spreading the low carbon message is crucial and we all have a role to play in helping the area reduce its carbon footprint and embrace new environmental technologies,” she said.
Organised by Sustainability West Midlands (SWM), the Green Leaders event celebrates and promotes some of the most influential people currently driving the green agenda.
George Marsh, chair of SWM, said that more people like Ceridwen are needed to make a sustainable future reality.
