ON MAY 5, voters in 41 police force areas in England and Wales will be asked to vote for Police and Crime Commissioners. The last time we were asked to vote the response of the public was clear, they did not vote because they did not want Police and Crime Commissioners.
The message was clear, but the politicians are not listening. Rather like some years ago the people the North East were asked if they wanted an elected Regional Assembly.
They voted no, and got an unelected Regional Assembly.
The solution to this democratic deficiency is it that there is a space on the election paper to say I do not want any of these; I do not want a Police and Crime Commissioner.
