WITH reference to your article this week headed “Save our Spire”, considering an application to demolish the church was first made back in June 2014, with a later proposal retaining the spire in 2015, I would have thought that a campaign and plan to save it could have been started earlier?
Then at least a section 106 levy could have been imposed to cover the cost of the tower’s relocation However, all is not lost, perhaps the council should dig deep to fund the rebuilding of the tower at a suitable location and name it the Queen Elizabeth II Tower as Redditch’s commemoration of our longest reigning monarch and of her 90th birthday.
Perhaps we could invite her back in 2018, 35 years after her last visit, to dedicate it?
