AT the moment, indirect taxes like VAT mean the poorest people pay a greater proportion of their income in tax than the wealthiest do.
Yet the one per cent of the population who earn enough to pay the 50p tax rate are asking for it to be cut.
When the poorest people in society are suffering the worst effects of savage cuts in public spending, it is morally indefensible for the wealthiest one per cent to complain about paying their fair share.
I have copied this letter to our local MP.
I would like to hear how the Government propose to ensure we have a fair tax system in the UK, which ensures we really are all “in this together”.
