I TOO am disappointed to see that approval for building at Brockhill has been granted, whatever the conditions imposed.
Many people may not have considered flooding in the area as a problem at all, yet the house I grew up in on Birmingham Road, the other side of Mettis Aerospace, flooded every time it rained heavily, for years.
Eventually drainage was improved, but it's doubtful that the imposition of the extra burden imposed by so many extra houses will enable it to cope in the future.
Some years ago central government issued advice to all councils not to build on land at risk of flooding.
Redditch Borough Council (RBC) has firmly aligned itself alongside the majority of councils in the country which have flatly ignored the advice and which also have no contingency plans to cope with such an event. Indeed, many have allowed the heaviest building on the land most at risk. This is not a surprise, especially in view of the Conservative desire to presume approval, but it is a massive disappointment, and a defeat for plain commonsense.
In addition, the roads out towards the M42 and also to the M5 are unlikely to cope with the extra traffic that these houses will generate.
Well done, RBC and Persimmon.
