BOXER Andrew Robinson is preparing for another tough test of his unbeaten professional record when he takes on Gilsen De Jesus later in the month.
The Redditch-based 28-year-old, pictured right, will be aiming to make it seven wins out of seven since leaving the amateur ranks last year.
He will be fighting on the undercard of the title fight between Terry Carruthers and Tyan Booth at the Paragon Hotel in Birmingham on Friday, June 21.
Standing in his way is Nottingham’s De Jesus, who will provide another examination of Robinson’s increasing reputation and confidence, despite a record of just two wins and seven defeats. But Robinson will be relieved to return to his regular weight division after his last fight against light-heavyweight Jody Meikle.
He said: “I am just glad to be back fighting at my normal weight division, I am a super-middleweight.
“This is another tough fight, Gilsen is not a brawler, he’s a technical fighter and I can’t just go in guns blazing, I’ve got to out box him.
“But it’s another step forward for me, a new test and one I am looking forward to.”
Robinson, nicknamed D’Animal, who works at Midlands Steel Traders in the town and trains at Shaun Cooper’s Boxing Academy, is preparing for his next test by working with Dudley’s Ryan Aston, Carruthers and Max Maxwell.
In his last fight, Robinson won all four rounds against Meikle, despite having to move up a division to take on a much tougher opponent.
“That was a tough fight, the guy was bigger than me and could really punch but I came through it OK,” added Robinson.
“It wasn’t ideal fighting out of my weight division but in the end I think it was a good test for me.
“There’s no let up for me, I want to keep progressing and there’s no room for error.”
June’s bout is also set to be Robinson’s first six-round professional fight and he has targeted a title fight by the end of the year.
