REDDITCH’S Andrew Robinson was stopped in the sixth round of his WBC International Title fight by the undefeated prospect Mark Heffron.
Featuring on the Tyson Fury comeback undercard at Manchester Arena, 'D’Animal' was in confident mood before the match having claimed the IBO Continental strap in his last outing.
The fight also represented a significant step up for Heffron who had never previously been scheduled to box more than eight rounds.
It was a gruelling bout, which was stopped twice for low-blows landed by Robinson’s hard-hitting opponent
But despite showing a lot of heart, the Redditch fighter struggled from round three onwards due to large swelling under his left eye.
Throughout the later rounds the two slowed, exchanging heavy hooks, but a two-handed combination from Heffron put an abrupt end to the proceedings.
The referee stopped the fight two-and-a-half minutes into the sixth round, wrapping up an impressive victory for the Oldham middleweight.
