DEFENDER Exodus Geoghaghan is set to make his return for Redditch United's trip to Boston United on Saturday.

The influential centre half is one of a number of players poised for a return with manager Gary Whild likely to ring the changes for the Blue Square North clash.

Fellow defender Matty Clarke could also be among those making a return along with midfield pair Richard Softley and Danny Edwards but striker Damien Markman may have to be content with a place on the bench as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

The former Sutton Coldfield and Wycombe Wanderers frontman was due to continue his comeback with a run-out for the Reserves against AFC Telford United in midweek.

"The more he plays, the better he is going to get," Whild explained. "He is a massive plus for us while it is good to have the others back in contention.

"Simon Hollis is still a little bit behind the rest, which is frustrating from both the player and the club, but we will be in a better position this week than we were against Alfreton on Saturday."

One player certain to miss the trip to the former Football League side is Lee Downes who is serving a three-match ban following his red card against Leigh RMI.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Alfreton at the weekend, substitute James Johnson's goal four minutes from time cancelling out a Chris Walton strike midway through the second half.

And one highlight from the game was the debut of 17-year-old right back Shane Healy. The youth teamer produced a starring role and earned the praise of his manager.

"The lad has great ability and I thought he was brilliant especially as he was coming into a weakened side, Whild added.

"The club has worked very hard to put a youth system in place and if you are going to do that then you need to use it.

"Shane took the opportunity and we also had another youth team player Chris Dickinson on the bench. The other lads in the youth team can now look at what they have achieved and think there is a chance for them to make the grade as well.

"There are five or six of them who have the potential. They have the right attitude and that is down to the excellent work Pete Finegan has done."

Redditch are also in action on Tuesday when they travel to Gainsborough Trinity for a league match. Check out www.redditchadvertiser.co.uk for a full report.
