WOMENS FOOTBALL - A GOAL deep in injury time resulted in Birmingham City losing 2-1 at Bristol Academy.

But anything less than a win for the home side would have been an injustice as Blues were under constant pressure in a one-sided encounter.

A Heather Scheuber equaliser, punishing an underhit backpass in first half injury time, was as good as it got for the under-performing visitors.

Blues had fallen behind to a Justine Lorton free-kick in the 18th minute and were finally buried by supersub Nicky Watts' close range winner in a match which also saw Bristol hit the woodwork three times.

Boss Laura Harvey will hope to have striker Amy McCann back for the home game against newly-promoted Liverpool at the Valley Stadium on Sunday (ko 2pm) but winger Dani Bird could miss out with a viral infection. McCann missed Sunday's defeat with a stomach bug.

REDDITCH United were without a keeper for a second week running and their hopes of claiming something at Knowle were not helped by only having ten players.

In the end it was the home side who ran out 2-0 winners and it would have been more had it not been for some excellent defending from the United back four.

The closest Redditch came was early in the second half when a Kate Saint shot hit the crossbar.

Laura Perry was named player of the match.

NEIGHBOURS Studley and Headless Cross followed up last week's goalless draw with another close match, Cross taking the spoils 2-0 at their new Beehive home.

Lisa Paronuzzi scored the opener from the penalty spot with Kirstie Robins doubling the lead when she headed home a corner.

Headless Cross manager Mandy Hill said: "The start to this season has been fantastic, every single player gave 110 per cent and proved that they wanted the win."

Cross travel to Birmingham Athletic on Sunday.
