WYTHALL Men's B' began their Division Four Winter League campaign with a 3-1 win over local rivals Studley.
The visitors began well with their second pair of Pearce and Battlewelch winning the first set 6-0 against the home pair of Kevin Turner and James Fox.
At the start of the second set the home pair regained their composure and levelled the match, again the score was 6-1.
Wythall went up 5-2 up in the final and although Studley fought back they won 1-6 6-1 6-4.
Wythall's first pair was Jake Smith and Ian Turner who played McGregor and Woodbridge from Studley. The Wythall pair dominated the first set taking it 6-1. The second set was close throughout and at 4-4 Studley had three break points as Turner was 0-40 on his serve.
Turner recovered to hold serve with the assistance of Smith who put away two volleys at the net. Immediately Wythall broke serve to win the match 6-1 6-4.
The reverse matches saw Smith and Turner continue their good form in winning the first set 6-4 against Pearce and Battlewelch. The second set was again close but the home pair had the edge at the net which eventually gave them victory 6-4.
The final rubber was between Turner and Fox of Wythall against McGregor and Woodbridge of Studley. The home pair was soon 4-1 up and seemed in control but Studley broke serve and did not lose another game in taking the set 6-4. The home pair did not recover from their opponents recovery and Studley dominated the second set winning the match 6-4 6-1.
