ALCESTER u15s suffered a 10-3 defeat at home to Leamington, their points coming from a late penalty.
The home side were without a number of their team and called on five u14s to make up the numbers.
Leamington were on the front foot for most of the first half but Alcester provided spirited defence and good work at the rucks.
The breakthrough finally came just before half-time when the visitors scored a try in the far right corner.
Alcester managed to gain their fair share of the ball in the second half but needed a try-saving tackle from one of their youngsters to keep Leamington at bay.
The home side's best effort came from a good defensive kick leading to a five-metre attacking lineout. Alcester won the ball but could not get it down the line to score and when their visitors broke upfield, they used the overlap to score a second try.
When Alcester were awarded a late penalty they opted for a kick at the posts and were rewarded with three points.
There will be 16 school teams from Alcester, Studley, Stratford, Redditch and the surrounding areas taking part with Studley Junior School battling to defend their title.
The action starts at 10am with the presentations due to start at 12.50pm.
