Worcestershire have commemorated Josh Baker in their first game since his tragic passing.

Ahead of the first day of the Pears away clash with Kent at Canterbury yesterday (Friday, May 10), players from both teams held a moment's silence and a minute's applause in recognition of the up-and-coming 20-year-old spinner, who passed away last week (Thursday, May 2).

In addition, Worcestershire's players will wear Baker's squad number 33 under their club emblem for the remainder of the season.

Baker, who played 47 games across all formats for Worcestershire, claimed a career total of 70 wickets.

This included playing in two County Championship matches this season.

He passed away a day after he took three wickets in a Worcestershire second XI game.

Respects were also paid to the young player at five other County Championship games taking place.

Club chief executive Ashley Giles reflected on the loss, saying: "The death of Baker has left everyone at the county devastated."

How the young player died has not been revealed by the club.

Despite an emotional couple of weeks, Worcestershire did Baker proud on the opening day of play, faring well with notable performances from Gareth Roderick, who scored a hundred for the second consecutive game, and Kashif Ali, who scored 71 runs.
