Worcestershire assistant head coach Kadeer Ali has been called up to coach a Hundred franchise.

Ali, who had a four year span as a player with the Pears and has coached at the club since 2019, has been selected as an assistant coach for Birmingham Phoenix.

He will be working with franchise head coach Daniel Vettori, as well as co-assistant coaches Ian Bell and James Franklin throughout the tournament.

This new role comes after Ali's successful stints as England Under-19 batting coach for the past two years.

In The Hundred, Ali will be teaming up with his brother and former Worcestershire player Moeen Ali, who is currently leading the Phoenix as skipper.

Ali said: "I’m delighted, to get an opportunity to work in The Hundred will be brilliant.

"Over the last three years, I’ve had a couple of days when I’ve gone in and helped out with the training day and matchday.

"Just to see the whole Hundred and the franchise, it was fantastic to be around that for a couple of days.

"But now to get an opportunity to be part of the competition as one of the assistant coaches is really exciting and I’m looking forward to it."

He added: "It could be a huge curving curve.

"I’ve been lucky enough over the last few years to be in different environments with the England Under-19s and, at Worcestershire, being promoted to Assistant Head Coach was a fantastic opportunity for me."

The former batsman also expressed his eagerness in working alongside his brother, Moeen.

He said: "I can’t wait for that.

"When I first came to Worcestershire, he was captain and I'm really looking forward to working alongside Mo again.

"It was an opportunity that was hard for me to turn down."

The Phoenix's campaign will begin next week, getting underway on Tuesday (July 23) against the Oval Invincibles at The Oval on the opening night of the tournament.
