REDDITCH United kept up their unbeaten start to the competitive season after bagging a late equaliser on Monday night.

Tim Flowers' Reds hit back to draw 2-2 with Halesowen Town at the Valley Stadium following last Saturday's 1-0 win at Lowestoft Town.

Monday's Southern League Premier Division Central game had everything with a power cut, penalty save, red card and a last-minute own goal from a former Reds defender.

After a 50-minute kick-off delay due to the power issue the Reds had a penalty on just eight minutes when Harry Emmett got clattered but Alex Cameron's spot-kick was saved by Dan Platt.

And Halesowen went ahead on 13 minutes when Ryan Wynter rose highest to nod in a corner watched by a bumper crowd of 933.

The visitors made it two on 35 minutes through Kieren Donnelly but the Reds pulled a goal back four minutes before half-time through Musa Ceesay.

McKauley Manning saw red for Halesowen for a second booking and the Reds eventually took advantage with an injury-time leveller thanks to their former defender Ryan Wollacott's headed own goal.

Previously, 10-men Redditch earned a hard-fought opening league win at Lowestoft, writes Jack Underwood.

The Reds had a big early chance when Cameron was denied by keeper Luke Holt.

Ceesay grabbed the lead on 16 minutes after Jordan Cranston's dangerous cross was fumbled by the keeper and the midfielder tapped home.

Redditch continued to dominate and Cameron had the ball in the back of the net but the assistant referee flagged for offside.

Just before half-time Cameron’s near-post effort was saved and Holt stopped the rebound from Ross Evans.

Redditch keeper Adam Harrison pushed away a Jake Reed effort in the second half and Samuel Johnson fired over.

In the 74th minute Cameron and Cranston were booked for the visitors.

And minutes later skipper Cranston saw red for a second booking after being ruled to have pushed an opponent in the back from a ball over the top.

But the Reds held on for an opening three points despite Lowestoft pressure.

Flowers has signed defender or midfielder Harry Leeson, 20, who impressed during pre-season after the Welsh youth international was released by Bristol City.

They have also added 23-year-old centre-half Max Ram from National League North outfit Rushall Olympic and young striker Marvellous Onabirekhanlen, 19, from Sporting Khalsa.

Redditch entertain Bishop's Stortford on Saturday at the Valley Stadium (3pm).
