REDDITCH United continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win over Bishop’s Stortford thanks to a man-of-the-match display from Reuben Wyatt.

The Reds now head into a busy bank holiday weekend with a short trip to Stratford Town on Saturday (3pm) followed by a home game with Stourbridge on Monday (3pm).

Early on during Saturday's Southern League Premier Division Central match, Stortford skipper Jake Thompson gave the ball away to Johnny Johnston who drove towards goal but his close-range effort was saved.

The Reds opened the deadlock after Jaiden White found Wyatt on the edge of the box and he turned on his left foot to curl a great finish into the bottom corner.

Home keeper Adam Harrison denied Cole DaSilva before scrambling the ball away off the line from the resulting corner.

There was a temporary stoppage in play after a medical emergency in the ground.

The ambulance arrived quickly and paramedics attended to the person in the crowd.

Wyatt should have had his second goal when Johnston laid the ball off but a miskicked effort flew wide.

The Northampton loanee was close again just before half-time after linking up with Johnston and his volley was saved well by Charles Binns.

White then picked up the ball in his own half and pulled off a first-time through-ball to Johnston who was denied by the keeper again.

Redditch entered half-time with a narrow lead and would have felt that advantage should have been more.

In the second period good play from Musa Ceesay saw him win the ball back high up and then shoot just wide after losing balance.

Soon after substitute Ryan Charles was sent off for the visitors.

The referee had pulled out a yellow card for a push on Harry Leeson but then showed the red for something said.

There were huge shouts for handball in the box from Stortford which were waved away before Wyatt fired narrowly wide at the other end.

Redditch should have sealed the game when Alex Cameron played in Johnston and the ball eventually fell to White whose strike was straight at Binns.

The game finished 1-0 to the Reds after a dominant display for a well-deserved three points that could have seen four or five goals.

Meanwhile, the Reds have been drawn at home to Halesowen Town in the FA Cup first qualifying round on Saturday, August 31 (3pm).
