Redditch United suffered defeat at home to AFC Sudbury after the away side produced a first-half turnaround to snatch all three points.

Max Martin returned to the squad following an injury, and Sam Fitzgerald filled in at Left-wing-back to replace the suspended Jordan Cranston.

The Reds opened the scoring really early on when Fitzgerald whipped a long ball into the box, which James Bradbrook spilled, and Max Ram got the final touch to finish into the back of the net.

Only six minutes later, Joshua Allen found himself inside the box and his strike was too powerful for Callum Smith to keep out, and Sudbury were back into the game.

Johnny Johnston had a couple of efforts to regain the lead for his side after he was played in behind twice, but the first shot was blocked, and the second shot was saved low by the ‘keeper.

In the 39th minute, the away side took the lead when a set piece was floated into the box, the Redditch defence failed to clear, and the ball was eventually scrambled home by Charlie Lewis.

The sides entered half-time with only the goal to separate.

Redditch started the second half applying a lot of pressure onto the defensive away side but were not able to test Bradbrook much.

Johnston managed to find some space just outside the box and attempted a curled effort but was wide of the right post.

Jaiden White came on to replace the booked Kartell Dawkins and added much-needed creativity in the Sudbury final third.

He almost grabbed an assist within a few minutes after he made a great run and played in Johnston down the right, whose effort flashed across goal narrowly wide of the post.

As the game entered the final stages, Redditch continued to apply more pressure as both White and substitute Reuben Wyatt had efforts held by Bradbrook in the space of a minute.

White breezed through a number of Sudbury players into the box, but his right-footed effort was easy for the ‘keeper to collect.

The Reds could have equalised in stoppage time after George Burroughs scuffed an effort over the bar, before Cyrus Bruce had a close-range effort well saved.

The referee blew for full-time to seal a narrow 2-1 defeat for Tim Flowers’s side.
