REDDITCH United fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup quarter-finals at home to Worcester City on Monday night.

A last-minute winner from substitute Zac Guinan decided a feisty affair with countless cards dished out to both sides.

United manager Tim Flowers missed the clash due to a back problem with assistant Calum Flanagan leading the side.

The first real chance saw City's Felix Miles break through and strike one from distance just wide of Callum Smith's post.  Another Miles shot was just saved by Smith down low.

Redditch responded with a curling effort from Jahvan Davidson-Miller but the shot did not trouble Haydn Whitcombe.

The first half was close with each team battling for a chance to break the deadlock.

The tone for the second period was set early on as a few crunching challenges made it clear it would be just as competitive as the first.

Redditch's Johnny Johnston sent a cross in which flashed past Whitcombe's post.

As the teams grew into the second half Kyle Belmonte spotted Smith off his line and an audacious shot from inside his own half fell wide.

Redditch responded quickly as Billy Shaw broke before passing in to Alex Cameron whose shot was blocked by defender Hayden Reeves.

Worcester were forced to drop down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes.

A shoulder barge followed by a scuffle between both teams saw the referee deal out a whole host of cards which included a controversial second yellow for Belmonte.

This did not deter City who held strong defensively and kept up the pressure.

In the final minutes of normal time their grit paid off watched by 624 fans.

Jordan Lymn beat two Redditch players and found Miles in the box who squared for substitute Guinan to stroke the ball home to decide a hard-fought game.

The game followed a 3-1 defeat for the Reds at leaders Kettering Town in Southern League Premier Division Central last Saturday.

Jonathan Edwards (2) and Nile Ranger scored against Redditch who replied through Marvellous Onabirekhanlen in front of 1,846 fans.

Redditch host fellow high-fliers Stamford in the league on Saturday (3pm).

They have signed 19-year-old defender Femi Olofinjana on loan from Birmingham City until the start of January and left-back Jack Kelly, 28, from Sporting Khalsa.

Winger Jaiden White has moved on following an approach from a team higher up the pyramid.
